What a difference a day makes––well, you can say that even for something shorter, say, that fantastic 11-minute sequence in “Extraction.”
In an interview with Bulletin Entertainment and select members of Philippine media, lead star Chris Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave shared just how difficult it was putting it all together.
It was designed to look like one seamless shot that included several car chases, pile-ups, hand-to-hand combat, running through tenements, leaping and falling off roofs – all filmed in a densely populated community in India.
Chris said it was “incredibly challenging” to do particularly because of the big wide shots they took.
“We couldn’t have stunt guys come in and switch out if we made a mistake,” he pointed out. “We couldn’t come to another angle. It had to be all in-camera, had to be me right in the thick of it and Sam right there with the camera on the front of the car diving across buildings, you know, in amongst the fight sequences.”
Ah, but that’s how you build mountains, right? The actor agreed.
“Once we pulled it off––it was about a two-week shoot–it really felt like we had done something pretty unique and pretty special.”
Sam, who marks the film as his directorial debut, also drew attention to the story aspect of the movie.
