The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Ambo has made six landfalls so far since Thursday upon entering the country's landmass -- the most recent was in San Andres, Quezon at 7:45 a.m. Friday.
Prior to this, Ambo made landfalls in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar; Dalupiri Island, Northern Samar; and Capul Island, Northern Samar on Thursday; and in the islands of Ticao and Burias in Masbate early Friday.
PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez said Ambo, the first typhoon in the country this year, has brought destructive winds and heavy to intense rainfall over the northern portion of Bondoc Peninsula in Southern Quezon.
Based on the latest weather update of PAGASA, the eye of Ambo was last spotted in the vicinity of Agdangan town in Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of up to 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour.
The government has placed concerned agencies on alert to ensure public safety with the onslaught of typhoon Ambo in some parts of the country, Malacañang said Friday.
Stay vigilant
The public, especially those living in areas hit by the storm, must stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities, according to presidential spokesman Harry Roque.
We are closely monitoring the situation in the country as we move from Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ)/ General Community Quarantine (GCQ), amid a weather disturbance in the Philippines, Roque said.
All concerned agencies are alert and on a standby through our Oplan Listo headed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), he added.
