The urn bearing former President Aquino’s ashes arrived at Manila Memorial Park at past noon, accompanied by his sisters, brothers-in-law, nephews, and nieces, other relatives, political allies, and friends.
Before the funeral convoy entered the memorial park, the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) gave the former President a water salute.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Cirilo Sobejana and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar met the convoy a few meters away from Aquino’s final resting place.
The Philippine national anthem was played and the AFP gave the former President a 21-gun salute after a short Mass.
The Philippine flag was then placed on top of the urn of Aquino before it was transferred to a funeral carriage bedecked with yellow flowers.
During the funeral rites a chopper from the Philippine Air Force hovered over to drop flower petals.
Aquino’s youngest sister, Kris, did the honor of placing the urn inside the tomb.
