The loved ones of those killed in a stampede in South Korea were yesterday searching for answers as the death toll topped 150. Partygoers, mostly teenagers and young adults, flooded the streets of Seoul's Itaewon neighbourhood on Saturday to enjoy the country's first Halloween celebrations since the lifting of Covid restrictions. But the night took a tragic turn as the crowd surged into "a hell-like" chaos and revellers fell on each other "like dominoes".
Seoul resident Philomene Aby headed to a community centre in search of news of her 22-year-old son, Masela, who went missing in the wake of the crush. Masela had gone to work at a club in the Itaewon area at around 6pm on Saturday. That was the last time Ms Aby saw him.
