IATF Mulls ‘Circuit Breaker' Lockdowns

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) is considering “circuit breaker” lockdowns to reverse the rising trend in COVID-19 cases.

Patterned after the scheme employed in the United Kingdom, circuit-breaker lockdowns are limited time tightened lockdowns designed to break the chain of infection and lower infection rates.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said the circuit-breaker strategy was included in the topics discussed by the IATF.

“The proposed circuit breaker for the rest of the Philippines is part of the agenda for the meeting scheduled last night. I think circuit breaker was among the immediate measures that can be implemented to stop the projections,” Roque said.
