A NEW mum is counting her blessings with a healthy baby in her arms – after she was told she had coronavirus the day before her due date.
Yumi Palmer was 24 hours from her first birth when she went down with flu-like symptoms and lost her sense of smell.
A desperate call to 111 confirmed her worst fears. She was told she almost certainly had Covid-19 and must self-isolate with husband Matt until her labour began.
Yumi, 32, then spent eight terrifying days fearing her baby would be born with the disease before being rushed to hospital when her waters broke.
But after a traumatic 32-hour labour and a birth in which she suffered serious bleeding, she is now back home with Matt and healthy son Ori – and has tested negative for the virus.
“We’re counting our blessings every minute of every day,” says Yumi. “To be home with my husband and our beautiful boy, all of us healthy is all we need.”
