New Delhi: With 923 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours and a test positivity rate of 1.29%, the capital on Wednesday found itself in ching towards Level 2 of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP): Amber Alert.
Another day of a positivity rate of over 1% would have brought that about. However, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) decided to continue with Yellow Alert for the moment as occupancy of hospital beds reserved for Covid-19 patients remains relatively low despite the number of cases nearly doubling.
LG Anil Baijal, who chaired the DDMA meeting, later tweeted “it was decided to continue with the existing restrictions imposed recently in view of the rising cases and to keep a close vigil on the ground situation”.
The number of new cases on Wednesday was 86% higher than the 496 cases on Tuesday and seven times higher than the 125 cases recorded seven days ago, on December 22. It’s also the biggest single-day spike in cases since May 30.
