New Delhi: Ten months before the Nirbhaya case seared the conscience of the country, a 19-year-old girl had been kidnapped from near her house in Qutub Vihar Phase-II close to Dwarka while on her way home after work. She was gang-raped, brutalised with car tools and earthenware shards and left to die in a mustard field in Haryana. Her mutilated and decomposed body was found three days later.
The three men accused of the horrendous crime have been tried, convicted and sentenced to death. But the death order has been reserved pending their appeal in the Supreme Court. Rahul, 27, Ravi, 23 and Vinod, 23, were convicted on charges of kidnapping, gang rape and murder. Police stated that it was Ravi who got his friends to commit the crime after the girl allegedly turned down his proposal for a relationship. In 2014, a city court convicted the three men and sentenced them to death. The capital punishment was confirmed by Delhi High Court in August 2014.
