120 MU colleges seek to increase seats, streams

After years of modest growth, Mumbai University has received applications for increasing student capacity in its exisiting colleges.

Mumbai: A total of 120 colleges want to either start new programmes or increase their capacity or start new streams. In all, 151 new proposals have been received, with most wanting to start a new course in commerce, followed by bachelors in management studies. Several colleges want to expand and foray into post-graduate education too, by applying for starting master’s programmes.

Although some of these colleges do not have a valid NA  AC grade or are in the process of applying for it, the varsity cleared the decks for all these. In some cases, the expert committee had not given permission, but the university called the management for a hearing and gave a green signal.
