India recorded just over 66 lakh Covid-19 cases in January, thethird-highest monthly count since the start of the pandemic and the highest since peak of the second wave in May last year. Deaths reported during the month, however, were relatively much lower at less than 15,000.
With the third wave appearing to have peaked last week, the Covid case count in January stayed below the worst second-wave months of April and May, when 69.3 lakh and 90.1 lakh cases, respectively, were recorded.
