The video circulated on social media showed the Ranas in the police station while the arrest procedure was underway on Saturday. The couple later alleged that they were ill-treated in custody, denied drinking water through the night, and discriminated against on the basis of caste.
In her letter to the Lok Sabha speaker, Navneet Rana alleged that “the police staff present told me that I belong to Scheduled Caste and hence they will not give me water in the same glass...it is only for this reason that no drinking water was provided.”
