Mumbai: The development has drawn criticism from environmentalists and concerned citizens, since the CZMP permits heightened construction activity close to the shoreline without taking into consideration the effects of global warming. At its heart is the delineation of the hazard line, which, experts say, is based on outdated data.
Environmentalist Debi Goenka, in a letter to the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA), has raised objections to the plan, pointing out that there were several changes between the draft CZMP maps and the final maps for Mumbai’s city and suburban districts, without any explanation.
