Medical internship post the final year of MBBS is a crucial phase for the students. All MBBS students need to complete a one-year internship in various clinical departments of a hospital.
As per the new guidelines by the National Medical Commission (NMC), Medical graduates will now have to complete their 12-month compulsory internship from the same institute where they pursued their MBBS degree.
Similar to the disruption caused in other sectors, the pandemic has also affected the internship for the medical students.
“Medical colleges are attached to hospitals for training medical students. This year, our internships were delayed due to the pandemic. It started four months late in Haryana, and even after it started, we were reallocated to different districts of Haryana for Covid duties. While I feel no remorse in serving in this pandemic, but it is also true that we are missing out on actual cases that we would have seen if we were not going through a pandemic,” says Dr Aayush Rana, MBBS Intern, SHKM Government Medical College, Nalhar.
