“It sounds like you may have a urinary tract infection (UTI), which affects a part of the urinary system—usually the bladder, but sometimes the kidneys, too.
“Having a UTI is more common in women, because the urethra (the tube connecting the bladder to outside your body) is shorter than in men, making it easier for bacteria (generally from the surrounding skin or around the anus) to enter. And then in pregnancy, hormonal changes relax soft tissues in your body, which makes it even easier for this bacteria to move upwards.
