In the newest annual round of iPhone releases, not only are there four different new iPhone models, there are also four different camera variations. In the past, Apple has used the same camera unit in both its standard-sized Pro model and the Pro Max. This year, however, there are some key differences between the two. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is arguably the very best option for iPhone photographers, with a range of features designed to entice photographers who are willing to pay a premium for them.
Key features
At first glance, the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s camera set-up doesn’t seem too different from its predecessor (the iPhone 11 Pro Max), or indeed its smaller sibling, the iPhone 12 Pro. Each has a triple-lens setup, but there are some key divergences to take into consideration.
While both the 12 Pro and the 12 Pro Max have 0.5x (13mm equivalent) and 1x (26mm equivalent) lenses, the sensor behind the 1x lens is larger in the Max. It also features sensor-shift stabilisation, which should make the bigger model better equipped to handle low-light shooting. Another variant is the telephoto lens, which is a 2.5x optic on the Pro Max, giving an equivalent of 65mm, compared with the 2x (56mm equivalent) lens of the standard Pro.
