THE OLYMPUS OM-D IS HIS CAMERA

Manitoulin Is His Muse

IT IS PROBABLY TRUE THAT A PHOTOGRAPHER, through almost single-minded devotion to a place, can help make it known, understood, and appreciated. But the converse is also true. A place can make a photographer. Its beauty, its landscape, its human dimensions, its impact on the creative spirit can mold or shape a photographer—both as artist and person.

That’s the way Olympus Visionary Peter Baumgarten views his relationship with his home—Ontario’s Manitoulin Island—the largest freshwater-lake island in the world.

Baumgarten is a professional photographer and educator based on Manitoulin, where the stunning nature surrounding him inspires his work. He has been a dedicated Olympus shooter for close to 40 years, having picked up his first Olympus camera at age 12. He says he made the switch to the mirrorless OM-D as soon as it hit the market.
