So You Don't Like Your First Job?

1985 was a trying year for the Philippines. Senator Ninoy Aquino had been assassinated two years before. Our country was in the midst of a political turmoil. There was public unrest all around. Companies were jittery with our situation. The economy was on a standstill.

So You Don't Like Your First Job?

It was a bad year to graduate from college.

No one was hiring even from the top schools.

Or at least, it felt that way.

After getting my diploma in electronics and communications engineering, I found myself anxiously applying and waiting for a job for four months. The only real job I had then was to buy vinegar and run other errands for my mom.

Suddenly, I got a job from an American multinational company! Out of a roomful of applicants, I was one of two people chosen. Woohoo! In God’s great mercy, He answered my prayers.

How did I feel? Ecstatic!

They gave me a supervisory position, a competitive compensation package, and a business card that said I was part of one of the best global technology companies at the time. What a big blessing it was!
