SRI RAMAKRISHNA A DIVINE LIFE IN PICTURES by Swami Chetanananda Published by Vedanta Society of St. Louis, Missouri, USA
Available at Advaita Ashrama, 5 Dehi Entally Road, Kolkata - 700 014. Email: mail@advaitaashrama.org. Hardbound, 2021, pp.232, Rs. 1200.
It sets up the social history of the rural and urban Bengal geography as a background to allow us to appreciate the emergence of Sri Ramakrishna. For a discerning reader, it provides a threefold experience: a) as a lucid biography of Sri Ramakrishna which in itself is rather a humbling and sacred experiential gain for the devotee, b) as a pictorial representation that often acts as a sensorial guide to the reminiscent seekers, c) as a social and cultural-historical record that moves between the spatio-temporal aspects of the macro society and Sri Ramakrishna.
Beginning with his childhood, the book unfolds his journey through lucid text (with many exciting anecdotes) accompanied by more than 600 beautiful photographs and images that paint a rather pretty picture in the readers' minds. In a way, it allows the readers to have several reflective moments by enabling them to visualize the narrative and sets them up to imagine the contexts as the narrative unfolds.
