Monsal Hill-climb Winner Disappointed Not To Break Record

Elliott’s 38-year-old time still stands despite Calum Brown’s record-breaking form

Last year’s winner Calum Brown defended his title in the 2019 Monsal hill-climb in Derbyshire on Sunday, but was left disappointed after missing out on the course record.

The fastest time at the Sheffrec CC event — one of the biggest on the calendar with more than 200 riders taking part and many more spectators lining the 645-yard course — has been held by former pro Malcolm Elliott since 1981.

Last year Brown, the 28-year-old B38-Cycles in Motion rider from Sheffield, went close to his record of 1-14.2 with a time just 0.3sec slower and made him the fastest rider up the hill in 37 years.
