That might be why Cycling Weekly’s volunteer's campaign seems to have struck a chord with many of the teams and cycling bodies we’ve spoken to, and they have been keen to offer their support for our initiative.
VOLUNTEER OF THE WEEK
Bruce Williams
North Norfolk Wheelers
Our first volunteer of the week is North Norfolk Wheelers’ Bruce Williams, a stalwart when it comes to helping out at races in the CTT East district. He was recommended by Mark Fairhead, a regular race organiser with CC Breckland. He says: “Bruce is a star in every way.”
In recent years finding marshals has been a challenge, he adds – underlining the need for as many people as possible to put their hands up to help out. “But regardless of time of day or where the course is, one person has always been available – Bruce!” Fairhead says.
“Last year I organised the National 12-hour,” explains Fairhead. “Bruce is there doing an early shift and hangs around all day to do a stint on the finishing circuit, willing on riders.
“He doesn’t just help at my club’s events, he can be seen helping at events by other cycling clubs in our district.” Chapeau, Bruce Williams!
