This week marks the anniversary of George McCluskey joining the Hoops

IT was on this week 45 years ago, on July 22, 1974 that a 16-year-old George McCluskey signed for Celtic. It was the start of a career that saw him score 83 goals in 207 games before leaving for Leeds United in 1983. His heart was always in Paradise, though, and the former striker now brings future Hoops stars through the Celtic Youth Academy. Here we revisit a 2014 Celtic View interview with George.

Best player you played alongside

I would have to say Kenny Dalglish. I trained with Jimmy Johnstone but I never really played alongside him but Kenny’s overall game was just fantastic. He had amazing ability but he worked hard as well. I was just a laddie, about 17 or 18-years-old and I looked up to him, but he would only have been about 25-years-old himself. He was excellent all-round and he was two-footed. I used to train every year with Jinky from when I was about 16 or 17-years-old as every pre-season we would go down to Bothwell and a lot of people just don’t appreciate how hard a trainer we Jimmy was. He worked really hard at his game, people thought it was just natural but he worked really hard at it and he trained like a demon.
