HAVING prevailed through the pressure of winning nine-in-a-row, Roy Aitken believes this Celtic side have what it takes to become the first team in Scottish football to win a 10th consecutive league title.

As Neil Lennon’s side set their sights on creating Scottish football history, Aitken sees many of the same key qualities in the current Hoops squad as the one he captained to success during Celtic’s Centenary season.

“I thought there was more pressure on last season and equalling the record,” said the Hoops legend in an exclusive interview with the Celtic View. “Neil Lennon and his staff did an unbelievable job. There was a lot of pressure on equalling the record and this year is the icing on the cake.

“They’ve already made history in equalling Jock Stein and now it’s the icing on the cake in going for 10. I’d argue that last year the real pressure was on to equal that record.

“This year, there’s a big target to go for and a big pressure to win, and there’s always a pressure to win at Celtic. This year it’s about being the first to do, but last season was about equalling a very special record.

“The slate has been wiped clean again. Celtic have won everything consistently over the last few years and people start to assume that they can go and do that again. It’s very difficult, though, because they’ve got to go and start again.
