CELTIC extended their perfect home record this season when they followed up an emphatic 4-0 midweek win over St Mirren with a routine 3-0 victory over Hamilton Accies in the SPFL on Saturday.

That makes it three wins out of three for the Hoops in 2019, having scored 10 goals with no reply during that time.

Moreover, the Scottish champions have now extended their lead at the top of the Premiership to three points, and will hope to increase that gap further still by capitalising on the game in hand against St Johnstone tonight (Wednesday).

Saturday’s result made Brendan Rodgers’ immaculate start to the new year all the more impressive, when a well-organised Hamilton side defended well and sat deep. Accies’ 22-year-old goalkeeper Ryan Fulton – who once worked with the Hoops boss during his time at Liverpool – could have done better for two of Celtic’s goals but, equally, kept the scoreline down with a number of top-class saves.

The manager praised the visitors’ structure and perseverance, which, in turn, reflected the quality and efforts of his own side.

“You can never be frustrated in a game like that, as Hamilton come with a game-plan to sit deep, to deny space, to work and defend for their lives, which they did do,” said Brendan Rodgers in an exclusive interview with the Celtic View.

“Some great goalkeeping stopped us from going in front earlier, but what the players showed was great patience in the game. We kept playing at the speed that we wanted, making the movements that we wanted to, and you’re then just waiting for that breakthrough. We got that just before half-time, which the players thoroughly deserved.
