Kelly Clark is delighted that the season is up and running again and is looking for more of the same from the Celts in their opening game

LESS than 24 hours after the Hoops kick-off their 2019/20 league campaign, the Celtic Women’s side will also be embarking on the next leg of their title aspirations.

Captained by Kelly Clark, the side have been chipping away at the domination of the big two - Glasgow City and Hibernian – and, following a two-month mid-season break, they return to action this weekend in a Glasgow derby no less, when they take on Rangers at the Hoops’ home base of East Kilbride’s K-Park.

The View caught up with the Celtic skipper ahead of the Sunday showdown.

We had a 4-1 away win in the last derby match, so are you looking for something similar this time around?

Obviously that was earlier on in the season and we’ve had a long break, but we finished the first half of the season very strongly and we’re looking to pick up exactly where we left off, if not even stronger. It’s always a big occasion playing against Rangers and we try to rise to the occasion every time, so the girls are really excited. It’s probably everyone’s favourite game to kick-off with again, and we’ll be looking for three points. They recently got a new manager in Gregory Vignal, and that always gives added motivation to any team. They’ll want to impress as it will be their first competitive game for him. He’s likely to have made some changes, I would imagine, to how they play, and also with him being an ex-player, and some of the team being big Rangers fans, that may give them some added fight to their performance. We’re confident going into this game, though.

Do you see the last couple of months as a mid-season break, or a close season, or a mixture of both?
