Irish striker Thomas Caffrey is hoping to play his part with the reserves this season, and ultimately progress to the first team

THOMAS Caffrey has long since settled into life at Celtic since moving over from Ireland just over two-and-a-half years ago.

The Dublin Bhoy, who turned 19 last Saturday, is also enjoying his first season in the reserve squad, having made the step-up to Tommy McIntyre’s squad at the start of the season.

And, like all of his team-mates, the Irish forward is hoping that his performances will ultimately attract the attention of Celtic manager, Neil Lennon. Already, he has trained with the Celtic first team on occasion earlier this season, and the experience has only served to whet his appetite for further participation.

He was recently on target in the 6-0 win over Dundee, and is hoping to help the Hoops as they push for league and cup glory this season.

After the reserves’ most recent win, a 3-2 victory over Hearts, the Celtic View caught up with Caffrey for his thoughts on his season so far…

The team enjoyed a 3-2 victory against Hearts, which was a huge three points to maintain that top spot. How happy is the team with the win?

It was a great win. The boys are happy with it. It was disappointing to let the two-goal lead slip but it was brilliant to get back into the game after starting really well. We were warned before the game it would be a physical battle so we prepared for it but we just wanted take care of our football.

It’s your first taste of reserve football this season, so how have you enjoyed playing with and against many first-team players?
