The Hoops winger is setting the bar higher than ever as he keeps on improving season by season

The New Forrest

FOR James Forrest to surpass the incredible standards of last season seems an unimaginable feat, but the Hoops winger’s form suggests he’s on course to do exactly that. Recently, swapping right for left, he has been showcasing his talents on the opposite wing but the results have been equally as impressive with Forrest helping the Hoops top their Europa League group.

Forrest has been an integral part of Neil Lennon’s history-making Hoops side and the 28-year-old once again played his part in Celtic’s most recent European win.

The 3-1 win over Rennes at Paradise last week saw Celtic secure top spot in the group with a game to spare. Finishing top of the group was a first for the club in any European competition, and the 13 points Celtic have accumulated along the way is three more than any other Hoops side have racked up previously.

Rennes held Celtic to a 1-1 draw in France in the opening game of the group, but the Scottish champions ensured there was no possibility of the Ligue 1 side being able to stop them taking all three points in Glasgow.

The French side managed to keep Celtic at bay in the early stages but Forrest helped dismantle their defence with an assist for Lewis Morgan to steer in at the near post just before the 20-minute mark. Ryan Christie and Mikey Johnston increased the lead before the visitors snatched a goal right at the end of the game.

Looking back on the game, Forrest was full of praise for his team-mates, and said finishing top of the group was something the club could take great pride in.
