Everton Ladies goalkeeper Kirstie Levell is targeting cup success with the Blue Girls this season – and is confident her team’s WSL 1 home clash with Sunderland next Sunday provides the perfect opportunity to embark on a prosperous run of form.
Boss Andy Spence is currently dividing his side’s ‘keeping duties between Levell and Lizzie Durack, with 20-year-old Levell taking the gloves in cup matches, and England international Durack doing the job in WSL 1.
Levell is embracing that battle for a starting spot and insists Everton – boosted by a 4-0 Continental Cup victory over Oxford United a fortnight ago - will come out firing against Sunderland at Widnes’ Select Security Stadium next weekend.
“At the moment I am playing cup games and Lizzie is playing league games, but I want to be playing in every match - to get the number one shirt,” Levell told Everton’s matchday programme.
“It is good competition, I think we help each other with our weaknesses and improve each other’s strengths. It is good to have healthy competition - in training it is a lot more competitive, but also enjoyable.
