Tributes Pour In For Rally Death Victims
Motorsport News|January 10,2018

The national rallying community suffered a tragic blow over the Christmas and New Year period with a double fatality following an accident at the inaugural Loco Two Stages Rally in Hampshire.

Tributes Pour In For Rally Death Victims

Ford Escort Mk2 driver Shawn Rayner, 52, and his co-driver Steve Dear, 64, lost their lives after hitting a tree on the rally’s fifth stage, which was held on private land at Bramley Camp, near Basingstoke on Friday, December 29.

As MN went to press, the incident is being jointly investigated by the organisers from Sutton and Cheam Motor Club together with Hampshire Police and the Motor Sports Association to establish the cause.

Rayner and Dear were well-loved, well-respected competitors, specialising in historic rallying.

Together with regular co-driver Declan Dear, Rayner was a frontrunner in both the MSA British Historic Rally Championship and the Irish Historic Tarmac Rally Championship.
