MEET ONE OF THE FASTEST BMX MOMS IN THE WORLD: COURTNEY TOMEI
All In The Family
Courtney Tomei was always hangin’ out in the Factory SE pits, since fiance’ Jason Morris was riding for them. In Schoony’s set-up, all family members are welcomed. So it wasn’t a big shocker to see that they’ve finally talked her into joining the red ‘n yellow for 2018. Now, SE really is All in the Family.

PULL: So, we were thinking of titling this article “World’s Fastest BMX Mom.”

COURTNEY: Oh sure, no pressure! (laughter). No pressure at all.

PULL: So, with both you and Jason racing, who watches the kid when you’re in staging and racing?

COURTNEY: It’s a trade-off. Practice is what’s hardest, especially if its a B-Schedule national.

JASON: At B-schedule races, we have the same practice.

PULL: Yeah, yesterday Kenth Fallen missed his Vet Pro podium because his son was racing his first National. Is your son going to start racing soon?

COURTNEY: He wanted to this weekend, but we told him “Your license is expired.”

JASON: It’s not really expired. We just weren’t prepared for him to race. He likes to chase kids around and he hauls butt on the Strider track we have built in our backyard.

PULL: How old is Camden now?

COURTNEY: Two and a half ...and too wild.

PULL: He’s pretty much grown up so far in the pit areas of BMX tracks. Do you guys expect him to just take to it naturally?

COURTNEY: We’re not sure which might be his first national maybe Bakersfield? We’ll see.

PULL: Did you get into racing really young yourself?

If there is one good thing about this year’s Covid closures of states and counties, it is that tracks that might not normally have gotten a shot at hosting a National or Gold Cup event, were now given that opportunity.

When you roll into the local Quiktrip and one of Tucson’s finest looks at your shirt and asks if you know Corben Sharrah, you can only be in one city in America. Often coined as the loudest city in BMX, it doesn’t matter if there is a single fan or a gaggle of Tucsonans, they know how to bring the energy.

GOLD CUP NORTHEAST

With all of the uncertainty in event planning this year, it was not a huge surprise that the DK Bicycles North East Gold Cup Finals shifted locations somewhat last minute. We were very lucky to have it and at a great location, Akron BMX in Akron, Ohio. The Big Red Truck was last here for the 2018 North East Gold Cup Finals, and the track is located in a pretty incredible location.
