Washout Does Nothing To Brighten Northants Spirits

IT'S hard to give a verdict on four days where literally nothing happened out on the field, but here goes...

Northants replaced their outfield earlier in the year and so far it has caused problems during its bedding-in period.

An extremely wet spring hasn’t helped, but in the match against Warwickshire the previous week, shots that would usually race to the boundary would catch in the grass and even, at times, stop dead.

Because it hasn’t completely settled, the drainage at Wantage Road isn’t what Northants would like it to be yet and the heavy rain that fell on the first two days meant there was no chance we’d get any play.

It’s ultimately frustrating for both teams.

For Northants, because they felt this was a chance to put a poor start to the season behind them and for Durham, because they’ve lost yet more cricket and feel other teams are getting a head start on them.
