ROUND ONE Andrew Thomas • OT • Georgia
The Giant Insider|June - July 2020
Well, we finally have our answer, TGI Nation. After weeks and even months of speculation, our question was finally answered. Dave Gettleman avoided the “shiny new toy” in Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons and drafted a “Hog Molly” who will eventually (God willing) protect Daniel Jones’ blind side for the next ten to fifteen years.

ROUND ONE Andrew Thomas • OT • Georgia

TGI Nation, meet 6’5” 315 lbs. Andrew Thomas.

While we believed the pick was destined to be Tristan Wirfs, Thomas is a pure left tackle who, if not at some point this season, will move to left tackle by 2021 at the latest. While the possibility exists that Nate Solder could move to right tackle this year, it is likely Thomas will begin his NFL career protecting Jones’ frontside and not his backside.

Giants head coach Joe Judge addressed the subject already, “The good thing about both of our tackles, really all of our tackles, they played on both sides. If you look across the board, everyone on our depth chart right now has played on the right and the left. Everyone is going to come in on day one and compete and as they shake out, whether that demonstrates being a starter at whatever position, that’s where they’ll fall.”

But why Thomas over Wirfs….or Jedrick Wills….or Mekhi Becton for that matter? What is it about Thomas that made him worth the fourth overall pick? Surely, Thomas’s competition in college played a major factor in the Giants’ decision to grab the Georgia Bulldog.
