Given the fact that meaningful football is being played in East Rutherford this December, let us take a look back at some classic late-season games that turned out well for Big Blue:
December 19, 1981 vs Dallas
On a cold Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands, the Giants closed out the regular season against the Cowboys, needing a win to secure their first playoff berth in 18 years. Both offenses struggled throughout the day, as there was no score at halftime, and Tony Dorsett was limited to 39 yards on 20 carries. After the Giants scored a third-quarter touchdown, Dallas scored ten points of their own. Joe Danelo sent the game to overtime on a 40-yard field goal, and in the extra period, he booted a 35-yarder to give the Giants a 13-10 win and give a generation of young New Yorkers their first playoff experience ever.
