A good sign of things to come

While Nintendo is keen on making Pokémon Let’s Go! the series’ poster child for the Switch, it is not exactly a main Pokémon game when compared to previous primary Pokéinstallments. Poké-fans, however, don’t need to panic at all as Pokémon Let’s Go! touts some fun gameplay features (a few obviously lifted from its mobile sibling, Pokémon Go) plus Switch-specific maneuvers that give the series a much needed breath of fresh air.

Story-wise, Pokémon Let’s Go! is an enhanced remake of Pokémon Yellow, released back in 1998. As such, the narrative is wholly unchanged following Yellow’s premise of having a partner pokémon (Pikachu or Eevee, depending on which version you buy) throughout your entire adventure. For older trainers who have been with the series since its inception, Pokémon Let’s Go! is going to be one heck of a trip down memory lane. New trainers, meanwhile, will find this to be a great introduction to what the series is all about—which is basically “catch them all” pokémon and battle them out to see who’s best. It’s a simple yet personal adventure that’s less about saving the world and more about discovering the it (or, at least, your home region of Kanto).
