Vivo has been aggressively expanding its range of phones in the last few months. We took a look at its practical Z1 Pro in August and this month we check out the latest S-series phone - Vivo S1.
Vivo phones are aesthetically designed and the S1 elevates the design quotient. The front is all display with a dewdrop notch above the screen and the glass-covered rear comes in two color choices - Diamond Black and Skyline Blue, giving the S1 a distinct look. The Skyline Blue variant looks nice and while the color seems to be inspired by Huawei’s P30 Pro Aurora Blue color, the S1’s gradient is more subtle. As far as buttons and ports go, the right side features power and volume buttons whereas the as left has a dedicated Google Assistant button. The bottom side hosts a 3.5mm headphone jack along with a loudspeaker and the micro USB port. The decision to go with micro-USB port is interesting considering the competition has moved to USB Type-C in this price range.
The display on the Vivo S1 is a 6.38-inch Halo FullView Display. The 90% screen-to-body ratio allows an immersive viewing experience, which is also helped with the AMOLED panel. Colors on the FHD+ (2340x1080) display pop with deep blacks, great contrast, and viewing angle. The phone also comes with display customizations like dark mode, eye protection, screen color adjustment, and always-on mode. The screen also features an in-screen fingerprint scanner, which works as intended.
