What Are Fibroids?

DO you experience heavy bleeding between or during your periods, which includes blood clots, pain in your pelvis and or lower back, increased urination and pain during sex? This is a sign that you could have fibroids.

WHAT ARE FIBROIDS?

Fibroids are an abnormal growth or tumour, which occurs in or on the uterus.

These tumours are made up of smooth muscle cells which vary in size and shape and can be as small as a nut or as big as a grapefruit.

A fibroid can cause severe abdominal pain and heavy painful monthly periods. The causes include an imbalance of hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone. The hormone imbalance may be a result of pregnancy, menopause, obesity or family history.

SYMPTOMS

Some women experience severe symptoms, while others are mild.
