KERRE TELLS WHY THE RSA HAS IMPORTANCE TODAY.
What a privilege it was to MC the RSA’s Annual Poppy Appeal last week. The appeal began on April 14 and runs through until the 20th, and is the RSA’s biggest fundraiser of the year. And they need the money, despite what some people think. I’ve had callers on the radio suggest that the RSA surely doesn’t need donations because the number of old soldiers would be dwindling every year.
But that’s simply not the case. We have veterans who have served in the Malayan emergency, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, East Timor, Afghanistan and the ongoing war against the Islamic State.
There are more than 40,000 veterans and the RSA is there to support them and their families. The theme of the appeal is “Not all wounds bleed”, referring to the serving men and women who experience psychological disorders when they return home.
