For Meghan, the nesting can begin!
After what has been the most intense couple of years of her life, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is finally getting the chance to have some time to herself as she prepares for the birth of her baby.
And the downtime, thanks to being on maternity leave, couldn’t have come too soon, according to royal insiders, who say Meghan (37) needs to recharge before becoming a mum this month.
“The scrutiny she’s under is immense and although she appears to be coping well under the pressure, it won’t hurt at all for her to be out of the public eye for a while,” says the source.
The former Suits actress has been at the centre of a whirlwind since it was revealed in November 2016 that she was dating Prince Harry. She’s barely had a moment to breathe since and while there have clearly been perks to dating a prince, and then marrying into the British royal family, she’s also had to deal with the flak.
Some of the criticism she has copped includes claims that her staff are deserting in droves because she’s difficult to work with. An article in society magazine Tatler ruffled a few feathers when it said “oldfashioned grandees” connected to the palace had described Meghan as “trouble” right from the beginning, and that Kensington Palace staff had nicknamed her “Me-Gain”.
It also recounts an anecdote from her former agent, Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne, who says Meghan was a warm, genuine and “ferociously intelligent” young woman, but that she changed after meeting Harry.
“She did give me a difficult time,” Gina says.
