Wannabes no more
On 8 July 1996, the Spice Girls burst onto the scene, releasing debut single Wannabe in the UK. It was a hit and the girls, then known as Mel C, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Victoria Adams – AKA Sporty, Ginger, Baby, Scary and Posh – were an instant sensation.
The Sugar Lumps
The Spice Girls enlisted the help of The Sugar Lumps for their Who Do You Think You Are music video for Comic Relief in 1997. Kathy Burke was Sporty, Dawn French played Posh, Llewella Gideon was Scary, Lulu acted as Baby and Jennifer Saunders was Ginger. Hilarious!
An Olympic moment
It reportedly took a hell of a lot of persuading to get Victoria on board, but it happened – and all five girls performed at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony in London, arriving atop London black cabs.
