When you have pre-party panic and want to fit into your dress, a high-fibre diet can help shed pounds quickly. It boosts digestion and revs up the rate at which you burn fat, helping you lose weight fast. Going high fibre is also the smartest way to shift weight in the party season when there’s loads of tempting food on offer. Being hungry around mince pies and chocolates is just a challenge too far for most of us.
EAT FEEL-FULLER FOOD
High-fibre foods are low-cal and low-GI, so you can eat more without gaining weight. ‘Fibre takes longer to eat and digest, giving the brain time to recognise feelings of fullness, which stops the urge to snack,’ says nutritionist Yvonne Wake. There are two types of fibre and both can help weight loss: soluble fibre dissolves in water and swells in the stomach to keep you feeling full. It’s found in bananas, oats and veg. Insoluble fibre passes straight through the gut – it’s found in wholewheat and grains.
