Jackie Wilson, 36, lives in Basingstoke with her husband, Joel , 34, and their children, Amber, seven, and Blake, one.

During our first date in September 2010, Joel went outside for a cigarette. I was happy to scroll through my phone until he reappeared. When he leaned in to kiss me later that night, I noticed that he’d been using breath mints, and that was fine by me.

When we moved in together, Joel would go outside to smoke, or would do it in his car. As far as I was concerned, Joel was a grown adult who could make his own decisions, and I never wanted to be the one to tell him what he could or couldn’t do.
