Beautiful tennis star Jelena Dokic hit back at trolls who targeted her over her weight after she appeared on Nine to commentate on the tennis last week, declaring enough is enough following a barrage of insults.
Jelena, 37, publicly pleaded for people to stop attacking her over her appearance, revealing that while she had put on weight during Melbourne’s six-month lockdown, she also suffered depression and anxiety.
DIFFERENT STANDARDS
“Leave me and my physical appearance alone,” she demanded. “I really don’t know why people and the media have the need to comment on someone’s physical appearance, especially when it comes to women. You would never talk like that about a man, it’s always about women and their appearance.
“While I am nowhere near my heaviest, I am also completely honest about the fact that I have put some weight back on in the Melbourne lockdown. It was very hard mentally for me in the world’s toughest lockdown for six months and not being able to see my loved ones for 15 months.”
Jelena opened up about her weight publicly when she signed up to become a Jenny Craig ambassador two-and-a-half years ago. She lost an extraordinary 53kg after her weight reached 120kg – but that also followed years of cruel comments about her post-tennis body shape.
