Ron Howard opens up about the on-set drama that threatened his friendship with the Fonz

Ron Howard has confessed that his decades-long friendship with Happy Days co-star Henry Winkler was nearly sabotaged by their TV bosses, who attempted to pit the two stars against each other in the sitcom’s heyday.

While the actor-turned-director says his character Richie Cunningham was the “undeniable lead” of Happy Days, which ran for 11 seasons from 1974 to 1984, the 67-year-old’s popularity was quickly eclipsed by castmate Henry, who played resident cool kid Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli.
