Peru’s capital city is known for its beaches, impressive street art and friendly locals. But the food is a highlight. Here are five restaurants not to miss in South America’s culinary capital.

1 Kjolle

Food fans might be familiar with Kjolle’s sibling restaurant, Centra, famed for owner and chef Virgilio Martínez’s appearance on the hit Netflix show Chef’s Table, and regular placings among the World’s Top 50 restaurants. Last year, Martinez’s wife Pia Leon – Latin America’s top female chef – opened Kjolle, named after a Peruvian flower. It’s as beautiful as the name suggests: All 100% Peruvian sourced light wood, waiters in waistcoats and stone tables. Overlooking the hefty price tag (we paid roughly $300 per person), it’s worth the money to experience Pia’s plant-based menu which, like at Central, relies heavily on native Peruvian produce.
