One financial hurdle after another threatens to derail the couple’s plans to escape the Firm

It was a big year last year for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and it’s only now, sources say, that they’re finding out the hard way that they bit off more than they could chew financially.

The couple, who fled the UK just over a year ago before unceremoniously announcing they were standing down from their royal roles, have been relying on the generosity of Prince Charles’ private purse as they wait for large stipends from their new deals with Spotify and Netflix to land in their bank accounts.

In the meantime, they’ve got a mortgage on their $20 million Santa Barbara mansion begging to be paid – a shock to Harry, 36, who, Woman’s Day is told, didn’t know what a mortgage was until they began househunting – and a blockbuster court case hanging over their heads.
