The duchess' father had tickets to London before suffering a stroke

The Sussexes and Thomas were to be in London at the same time.

As news broke last week that Thomas Markle, the estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex, had suffered a massive stroke, no one was more torn than Meghan herself.

Insiders say the exiled royal, who hasn't spoken to her father in four years, was devastated by the news and at the time Woman's Day went to print, she hadn't yet decided whether to continue with her plans to attend the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in London this week or to rush to her ailing father's bedside.

One thing, however, was certain: Thomas' medical emergency brought back all the trauma of the events surrounding her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
