Rebecca gave her sister Kristy the ultimate gift, a much wanted son.
Surrogacy was her last hope
It’s been four months since Kristy and Craig Darken welcomed their beautiful son Henry into the world, but their journey to parenthood was a lot longer.
The New South Wales couple had spent almost eight years – and about $100,000 – trying to start a family before their dreams of having a baby finally became a reality on February 8, when Kristy’s sister Rebecca gave birth to their son.
“Every baby is a miracle, but for us, he’s an actual miracle because we never thought we’d get to this point,” Kristy, 35, tells Woman’s Day. “I still didn’t believe it was happening until Henry was finally here.”
When she found out at 17 that she had been born without a uterus, Kristy feared she’d never be able to follow in her mother’s footsteps, who became a young mum at the age of 20.
“I have a really close relationship with my mum and I always wanted to have that bond with my own kids,” explains Kristy.
