Tips To Wash Winter Clothes

Cold weather means piling on extra layers and it also means your laundry basket will fill up a lot faster. Knowing the right way to wash winter clothes can help keep your favourite clothes looking new for next season. Cut back on laundry time, and even save. With these handy tips, your winter clothing will look as good as new season after season.

Use the right brush:

Avoid washing machines to clean your sweaters as they may lose their sheen. Instead use an electrostatic garment brush after every wear as woollens tend to accumulate a lot of dust and are vulnerable to moths. Airing them and spot-cleaning is another effective way to keep them new.

Hand wash grandma's knitted sweater or a special cashmere scarf with a few drops of gentle dish soap:

Fill a bucket or sink with cold water, add the soap, and swish the sweater around(don't twist). Empty the bucket, refill with cold water, and swish again until the sweater is rinsed clean. Repeat if needed to get all the soap out.

Treat slush, mud and salt stains right away:

It's tempting to wait until the end of the season, but stains are much harder to remove once they're set. Instead, spray ugly marks with an enzyme-based stain remover and wash as soon as you notice them. You can remove light stains on wool by blotting (not rubbing) with cold water or club soda using absorbent clothes or paper towel

Wear a base layer under sweaters:
