The Delhi Government wants to retain the tag of formulating the most sustainable EV policy. To have one out of every four vehicles sold be an EV, the Delhi government is targeting 25 per cent of EV volumes of the total sales by 2024. To reverse engineer this goal, it is banking on the 2.0 version of its EV Policy. The policy, courtesy of RMI India Foundation and Climate Trends, has over 300 stakeholders giving it the final shape. The Government is open to taking in feedback and acting upon critical suggestions before formalising the draft policy. It took the government, nearly three years, including the pandemic-marred fiscal to reach this far. At the summit in Delhi, the Minister of Transport, Kailash Gahlot, drew attention to the proactive measures. He averred, "I can say with confidence that Delhi's EV policy is the most progressive among all states in India. Its success is shared by all stakeholders, including Delhi's citizens who adopted this new technology. We have always focused on inclusion, incentivisation and innovation, and collaboration is a guiding principle we abide by to ensure success." He was joined by Ashish Kundra, Principal Secretary and Transport Commissioner, and Gopal Mohan, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Member, of Delhi Development Corporation. N Mohan, CEO, of Delhi Electric Vehicle Cell and Shilpa Shinde, Special Commissioner for the Transport Department, the Government of NCT of Delhi were also in attendance.
