Gogoro comes to India with tech partner Zypp Electric

It took a while, but it was worth the wait. Having studied the market for close to half a decade, Taiwan-based global tech player in battery swapping solutions, Gogoro, has finally entered India with its battery swapping pilot. Earlier in the month, Gogoro announced a strategic partnership with Zypp Electric, India's emerging EV-asa-Service (EAAS) platform to launch a B2B pilot in Delhi during December using Gogoro's battery swapping set-up.

This pilot, that will enable the last mile delivery fleets to electrify through Gogoro Network Battery Swapping, is the first step towards a larger goal, which may eventually pave the way for bigger portfolio, local battery or vehicle manufacturing set up that may also become the base for exports.

Promising to deliver a battery swap in six seconds and a safe, reliable mobility solution, Gogoro believes their solution can help in quick transition to green vehicles and cleaner cities.

Horace Luke, Founder, and Chief Executive Officer of Gogoro told Autocar Professional, the pilot in India has started after waiting and watching the progress in the country for over four years.

"The market is ready for EVs. How can we quickly contribute to turning densely populated cities green? The only way to do it is battery swapping for mobility needs. India, to us is the last frontier, whatever it takes to make electrification in India in a big way, we would like to contribute. We are looking at how we can enable the industry (swappable battery market) to happen, so that we can participate," he added.

Founded in 2011, Gogoro already has an alliance with India's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp and Foxconn for development and sales of swappable battery solutions and is open to more partnerships in future to accelerate the transition towards electrification.

Globally, Gogoro has tie-ups with 10 different vehicle manufacturers including Yamaha and Suzuki Taiwan.
