The biennial motor show in Tokyo returned in 2023 after a four-year-long hiatus. Here are the highlights

THE CHANGE IN NOMENCLATURE from the "Tokyo Motor Show" to "Japan Mobility Show" shows how the perception of mobility, especially personal mobility, has changed over the last few years. As always, however, there were a bunch of new showcases ranging from the humble new Suzuki Swift to the mind-boggling Nissan Hyper Force Concept. Enthusiasts would have been content with just a few of the iconic cars being unveiled but the fact that Mazda's Iconic SP, Honda's Prelude Concept, Toyota's FT-Se Concept, and the aforementioned Nissan Hyper Force Concept were all unveiled at the same time made the Japan Mobility Show that much more entertaining.

BMW

Of the very few international brands present, BMW were the interesting ones showcasing the radical new X2, looking sharper and tighter now, along with its electric counterpart, the new iX2. AIso present were the XM plug-in hybrid super-SUV and the future of BMW, the Vision Neue Klasse.


BYD

The fastest-growing EV maker from China had the Yangwang U8 and the Denza D9 concepts hoping to take a piece of the growing EV markets around the world.


Daihatsu

Daihatsu went all funky with Me:MO concept, a mini EV with custom interior and display that can be altered according to the user. AIso showcased were the VISION COPEN and OSANPO, an open-top mini EV aimed at just the fun factor.

Honda 

Honda were there with their striking new Prelude prototype. It was clean and fresh-looking with neat lines all over. They also showcased the Prologue Prototype and the Sustaina-c, a city car for short runs.

Lexus
